The Northeast Clown Institute (NCI) and The Purpose of Clowning

The Northeast Clown Institute is dedicated to fostering the learning and sharing of the art of clowning.  We believe that the goal of clowning is trifold, using respect of personal boundaries and being mindful of culture, we expect our students will bring to their audiences the following:
  1. a positive experience bringing happiness, contentment and joy
  2. a momentary escape from their difficulties
  3. smiles and laughter

Regarding the current phenomenon of “haunting / scary clowns,” NCI does not teach this.

NCI has no classes on this type of makeup, costume or performance, nor does NCI endorse this form of clowning.

We promote traditional clown personalities, namely whiteface, auguste, hobo, tramp, and character clowns in our curriculum.

Our Mission...

The Northeast Clown Institute is a non-profit educational organization, open to all who wish to develop and/or improve their clowning skills.

NCI is committed to keeping our tuition costs down, so that the average person can afford to come and learn the clowning craft.

Our vendors are informative and helpful, bringing with them their clowning experiences and knowledge to share with the students.

The principal charity supported by the NCI is the International Shrine Clown Association's Sneaker Fund. This is the charity which raises money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children throughout North America. 100% of the donations collected for the Sneaker Fund goes directly to burn research.
